A Case of Growing Teratoma Syndrome with Gliomatosis Peritonei in The Setting of Ovarian Immature Teratoma

چکیده
Growing tumor syndrome (GTS) occurs rarely in women with immature ovarian teratoma. Unlike many malignancies, it can be successfully treated chemotherapy and fertility-sparing surgery. Early diagnosis is crucial to avoid unnecessarily aggressive treatment.

Gliomatosis peritonei caused by ovarian teratoma.
A case of ovarian teratoma which produced glial peritoneal deposits is described. Twelve other cases in the literature are tabulated. The age at presentation ranges from 22 months to 22 years (mean age 14.6 years). The primary tumour may be solid or cystic. The prognosis does not appear to be improved by radical surgery as opposed to simple excision but depends mainly on the maturity of the tis...
متن کاملImmature ovarian teratoma with unusual gliomatosis
This study aimed to investigate an unusual case of immature ovarian teratoma with onset of mature glial cells implanted on the contralateral ovary, a challenge in the diagnosis of the second ovarian tumor. We report the case of a 31- yr-old woman, who developed at the age of 16 an immature teratoma in the right ovary that was surgically removed. Six years later mature glial implants were presen...
متن کاملImmature teratoma of the ovary with gliomatosis peritonei. A case report.
Gliomatosis peritonei is a rare complication of immature teratoma of the ovary and should not be confused with metastatic ovarian carcinoma. Treatment depends on the histological grading of the gliomatous lesions. All grades, except grade 0, qualify for adjuvant chemotherapy. Repeated laparotomies for cytological sampling and the removal of tumour are essential. A 16-year-old Ovambo nulligravid...
متن کاملGrowing Teratoma Syndrome and Peritoneal Gliomatosis
The growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is defined as a detection of an enlarged mass during or after chemotherapy treatment for germ cell tumor. We report a case of an 18-year-old girl treated for growing teratoma syndrome after chemotherapy for malignant germ cell tumor of the ovary associated with peritoneal gliomatosis. Chemotherapy induced normalisation of alpha-fetoprotein rate whereas there ...
متن کاملHuge immature teratoma of the ovary with gliomatosis peritonei in childhood
Germ cell tumors account for less than 3% of all ovarian cancers. These tumors generally appear in childhood or in those under 30 years of age. Immature ovarian teratoma is the third most frequent germ cell tumor after dysgerminoma and endodermal sinus tumors. These tumors should be distinguished from mature teratomas. Discrimination of malignant and benign tumors depends on the presence of the...
